Sometimes homeowners have a frustrating experience with home warranty companies. The best way to help yourself understand your home warranty contract is to read it and ask questions! It will tell you the ins and the outs of your protection, what is covered, what is not covered, how to file a claim and so much more – it is a goldmine of information!

What is Covered & What is not Covered in a Home Warranty Contract

Systems that are usually covered in a home warranty:

  • Plumbing System
  • Electrical System
  • Heating System
  • Cooling System
  • Coverage on these systems include HVAC units, ductwork, circuit boxes, pipes and more.

Appliances that are usually covered: (Some are supplemental to your basic plans)

  • Dishwashers
  • Garbage disposal
  • Oven/ range/ cooktops
  • Built-in microwaves
  • Refrigerators
  • Washers and dryers

These are all appliances/systems that Landmark covers, however, to know exactly what plan you have paid for and what is included in that plan, you need to look at your contract. You will also see in your Landmark home warranty contract that these systems and appliances must be maintained properly in order for the home warranty to repair or replace them when they fail.

Reading Your Home Warranty Contract Sets Expectations

The first section “Service Overview” in your Landmark Home Warranty contract the most important. It goes through the generic parts of what is covered and what is not covered in your contract. Reading through this will save you a lot of time. Landmark’s home warranties are not all-inclusive, which means there are limits to what Landmark covers in your home. The plans later on in the contract will go into what the limits we have for each situation and if you are still confused you can contact us. Section D in your Landmark Home Warranty contract goes into what the contract generally does not cover.

If you find that the coverage that you purchased is not what you would like and you want to upgrade your coverage you can do so within 14 days of purchase.

Reading Your Home Warranty Contract Teaches You How to File a Claim

Filing a claim is so easy! Click this link: https://www.landmarkhw.com/claim in the top right corner there is a green button that says “Request a Repair.” It is as easy as that. You can also call us 24 hours a day 7 days a week at 866.306.2999 to open a claim.

When you file a claim you will pay your service fee that is also conveniently located in your contract under the “To Request a Service” section.

How to Renew your Contract

When you purchase a home warranty there are two ways to make payments, monthly or annually. The benefit of monthly payments your contract will renew automatically which means you’ll have continuous coverage, whereas with an annual renewal you pay in full and you may have a lapse in coverage.

Landmark Home Warranty representative will contact you and let you know when your contract is up for renewal and help you understand what your coverage options are. This is where you can really customize your plans. Now that you have been in the house for a year you will probably know more about what you want or don’t want to cover.
